Hi Everyone
Today I'm going to post something a little different to my usual tangles. ( I wonder if this counts as 'create something each day in June for the Whimsy and Zen challenge with Kelly'). I better do a tangle just in case.
Please continue to read for the recipe and method.
First I'd like to say it's going to be a long post - I hope you stay with me :)
Okay, so I saw Eggplants at the green grocers at a really good price, so I figured I'd buy some to make Marinated Eggplant (I have made this before) and decided I'd take some pics along the way.
Now is probably a good time to let you know the ingredients
You will need
- Eggplants or Aubergines (I used 4 medium sized)
- Olive Oil (about 1 cup)
- Balsamic Vinegar (about 1 cup -I used the dark as that's what I had in my pantry, but white is good too)
- Garlic (I used a whole thingy majiggy - crushed)
- Parsley - fresh (about 1 cup roughly chopped)
- Dried Oregano ( roughly 1 teaspoon)
- Dried Basil (roughly 1 teaspoon)
- Salt - for sprinkling
you will also need some paper towelling, a garlic crusher and a large glass jar or container.
Marinated Eggplant tastes yummy in a sandwich or bread roll with some Salami, Cheese, Mushrooms, Tomatoes - anything really - or just like that with some Crackers and Cheese. anyway will do :)
Start slicing your washed and dried Eggplants (not too thick, not too thin)
Lay them out on paper towelling and sprinkle with salt (this is supposed to bring out the bitterness of the eggplant)
Close up of beading from the salt
Start to heat your pan with a splash of Olive Oil - (a ribbed Griddle is great but mine is in storage ;-)
After sprinkling with Salt and you get the beading, turn slices over and sprinkle with some more Salt.
Then soak up the moisture with Paper Towel
Your pan should be nice and hot now - add slices of Eggplant and cook for a short time only, you don't want to cook the Eggplant or else they will get too soft and mushy (I think about a minute on each side will do and don't worry if they still look raw as they will soften)
Do them in batches and place in a paper lined dish
Now for the marinade
In a bowl mix, Oil, Vinegar, Dried Herbs, crushed Garlic and chopped Parsley..... mmm mmm almost there now :)
Take each slice and dip in marinade and start laying them in a jar - wait to cool completely before storing in the refrigerator (it keeps for several weeks)
And wallah!! all done (of course I had to try it - it is best to wait at least a couple of days :) )
If you made it all the way down to here, I thank you
I hope you enjoyed my post and I do hope you try to make this yourself.
Enjoy your day!
I haven't participated in 'It's a String Thing' in quite a while and as it was 10.pm I was in a bit of a hurry to create something for day 13 whimsy and zen
It's a String Thing #44 (string by Anne Marks)
In honor of ANNE, we will use 4 tangle patterns that begin with the letter 'N'.
They are ~
Neuron by Beth Snoderly
Navaho by CZT Caren Mlot
and two official Zentangle® patterns
N'Zeppel
Nipa
Thank you
Here's a tangle I was messing with in between financial training at the hospital today
This is what beadsofcourage is all about and this week Laura has challenged us to participate by drawing something with reference to beads of courage. Her darling little boy is her inspiration - when you look at all the beads he has collected, it makes you think what a brave little boy he is - so many visits to doctors, hospital and many tests undertaken.
You are such a strong woman Laura - I wish you all well especially your little Artoo, what a trooper!
Here is my entry - a simple string of beads. I may do another if time permits.
This is also my Day 12 entry with Kelly from http://whimsyandzen.blogspot.com.au/
Thanks for dropping by, please say hi :)
Have a lovely week.
I was flicking through the pages of 'Canvas Embroidery Patterns' and was inspired by a Bargello kind of pattern.
It reminded me of corrugated board and as I didn't think much of the name 'corrugated' I decided on 'Krinkle'.
It's a very simple pattern with basically 2 steps. I'm going to play some more - I think it's very versatile and has lots of room for many embellishments. Here, I've only shown a few - I think you get the drift - I do hope you like it and try it out for yourselves.
It really comes to life with some shading.
Have a great week :)
my inspiration - the colours are so rich and beautiful
Seeing as I finished the step out and shading today, I will enter it as my Day 11, create each day in June - a challenge with Kelly Barone from http://whimsyandzen.blogspot.com.au/
Back at work today after a 3 day long weekend (a public holiday for the Queen's Birthday). Just a quick creation tonight - flowers on vanilla cardstock (15cm X 21cm) - coloured with Copic markers.
Think I will make this into a card.

Tangles: Maddie and Snuggles by me, Zonked by Barbara Finwall. Twistine by Jennifer Hohensteiner.
and this tile I finished on the 7th which I didn't post on the day as I entered something else :)
Join in the fun if you have some time :) I hope you are well.
Welcome Back Erin! How time flies, 3 months! I'm glad you're back and look forward to the Dares - Congratulations on passing 3rd semester of Nursing School - I don't know how you fit it all in, good job!
I know I read about using tangles that begin with 'H' for Happy or even tangles starting with the letters in the word, but somehow I saw flowers when I saw this Dare - and flowers make me happy :)
Thanks everyone for taking time to stop by - please say hello - happy Sunday or if you are down under have a happy Monday :)
my 2nd Zendala - decided not to link as there is a competition going on :)
Experimenting with layering - A Renaissance tile - white charcoal pencil
using tangle 'verve', then a pink watercolour pencil over the top -
this tangle started as 'carp3' but I somehow changed it along the way.
(I don't think I've ever done this tangle correctly) thank you Mildred Galliher - what a great idea!
and this next pairing of 'Hurry' and 'Leaflet' in red and blue gel pen then filling in with blue and red coloured pencils with spirals.
Mum and day were married in 1959 on 6th June. A few years later they decided to leave their families back in a small village in Macedonia to come to the lucky country - Australia. Dad came out here with one of his brothers in 1962. Mum and I (as a 3 year old) came soon after in 1964.
To this day, at ages 76 (dad, almost 77) and 73 (mum), they are still hard at work. They retired over 20 years ago and have been busier than when they worked in factories. Their determination, pride, dedication and work ethics and family values have been instilled in us and I am very grateful.
Congratulations to my mum and dad - peace, love and happiness and good health always xx
I made this card for my parents 55th Wedding Anniversary. Its on cardstock, a melony colour, a pale green and vanilla white. I decided to try my hand at doing a whole card with dangles and fancy lettering.
It looks much nicer in real - for a bit of bling I added some orange, green and silver gems.
I think I will add this to day 7 of 'create every day in June'.
Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a lovely weekend.
I've been busy tangling every day for 5 days now ( as part of this challenge http://whimsyandzen.blogspot.com.au/and finally made a start on this week's challenge with the Diva. Bugles is not a tangle I use very much but now that I've experimented I think I will use it some more.
I have 2 versions here, black and white, and colour. I erased all the shading and decided to add colour to bring out the delicate pattern.
I must say I really enjoyed drawing this and I hope you like it too. Thank you Laura and Joyce.
Thank you for dropping by and having an interest in my work - I appreciate all the lovely comments from last week's challenge, thanks for taking time out of your busy lives.
See you around :)
Here is my tile for the day - black gel pen, blue and green Faber Castell artist pens.
my 3 for today, 4th June - because I'm one day ahead, its getting a bit confusing as I am linking my posts for today on the post for the day before ie 3rd :)
I finished this after midnight last night, 4th June (Y-ful Power for the Wacky Zentangle Weekly Challenges Facebook group)
the 2 above I drew during the day - finished them tonight
